Overview The Board Mission

MISSION

The Imbabazi Foundation was established for the purpose of managing and overseeing the operations of the Imbabazi Orphanage in Gisenyi, Rwanda, following the death of Rosamond Carr. The Foundation is responsible for providing food, shelter, safety, and a nurturing environment, in addition to the education and/or vocational training of the children in order to prepare them for independent lives outside the Imbabazi.

The Board has adopted the following operating policies:

• The Imbabazi will no longer operate as an “Orphanage,” but rather as a “Center” to care for orphaned and vulnerable children. For the time being, we will not be accepting any new children to the Imbabazi, unless they are siblings of children already in residence.

• The Board has adopted a Child Development Strategy to define its overall goals for the educational, cultural, physical, and psychological development of the children.

• A Memorandum of Understanding has been adopted and submitted to the Rwandan Department of Social Affairs to formalize the Foundation’s intent and responsibilities for the children at Imbabazi.

• The Board has engaged legal counsel to ensure that it complies with all laws of Rwanda and provides formal advocacy for the children.

• The Board is dedicated to the preservation and continuation of the legacy of Rosamond Carr.

• The Board continues to aggressively pursue every avenue available to search for extended family members so that the children may be placed in a traditional family environment.

• The Board is committed to providing each child with the best possible education and/or vocational training opportunities in order that they may lead successful, meaningful and independent lives. A fund-raising program and educational endowment fund have been established toward that end.
